Investment in amoibe’s Seed Round, Provider of AI-Era Engineer Training Service
Genesia Ventures is pleased to announce its lead investment through Genesia Venture Fund 3 (GV-3) in the seed round of amoibe, provider of “amoibe OJT,” an engineer training service for the AI era.
Investment Background
Japan’s system development and contracted development market is a massive ¥9 trillion industry. However, skill development among major players, particularly System Integrators (SIers), has not kept pace with the rapid evolution of technologies like agile development and generative AI over the past decade. Generative AI implementation is already advancing in downstream development processes, significantly changing conventional programming work. With this context, engineers must now develop skills in upstream processes—such as requirements definition and basic design—while also mastering the use of AI technologies and products.
This transformation is clearly illustrated by recent developments: the emergence of AI development tools like Cursor and Devin, which reached valuations exceeding ¥1.4 trillion in just three years, alongside the layoffs and hiring freezes affecting engineering staff at global giants like Microsoft and Salesforce. The engineering profession is fundamentally being redefined.
In Japan particularly, two challenges are occurring simultaneously: a shortage of advanced IT talent and a surplus of conventional IT talent. Many engineers, especially in SIers, face an increasing risk of their work being replaced by AI in non-legacy areas, making reskilling urgent. In addition, Japan’s unique business practices of multi-tier subcontracting and outsourced development structures are expected to undergo major changes due to AI proliferation.
With the engineering landscape and system development industry at a structural turning point, it’s crucial to redefine not only technical skills but also roles and values in the AI era. Both individual engineers and companies must proactively adapt to these imminent changes.

In response, they have introduced the “Engineer Development Vision for the AI Era,” revamping course requirements to support engineers from both user and vendor companies adapt to future changes.
